Where to send your street work

Before you send anything

A directory is only useful if you arrive with an edit. The outlets below accept street photography, but most of them see hundreds of submissions a month and read the first three frames. Some things we have learned from reading 336 submissions ourselves, and from the outlets that told us why they passed:

• Send five to eight frames, not forty. A tight set says you can edit. A loose one says you cannot.
• One subject per set. A market, a street, a festival, a person. Mixed sets read as a portfolio, and most outlets are not asking for one.
• Lead with the strongest frame, close with the second. Nobody reaches the middle on a first pass.
• Captions short and factual. Where, when, what was happening. No adjectives.
• Check the rules the day you submit. Fees, deadlines, image sizes and release requirements change. We update this list, but the outlet's own page is the only one that counts.

How we rate them

Every outlet here was checked by a person at Vietnam Streets: what they publish, what they charge, whether street work with identifiable strangers is welcome, and whether anyone we know has been published there. VS Pick means we would send our own work. It is not paid for and it is not a ranking; it is a shortlist for someone with one evening to spend.

The categories are the ones that matter for street work: magazines and online features, awards and competitions, festivals and exhibitions, platforms and communities, collectives, and books and zines. Fees are shown where they exist because a free entry and a 40-dollar one are different decisions.
